  • Apple Seems To Be An Old Boys’ Club

My friend Amy posted a link to Apple's PR page where executive bios are listed. I clicked on it and was shocked to see that everyone on the page was (I think) white and male. It was disappointing to see, and as a technology director in a girls 1:1 laptop school, it makes me wonder how Apple can evolve like that.

We know that women are underrepresented in both engineering and computer science in college and career-wise, to theĀ detrimentĀ of those fields. One might hope that a company like Apple, with such a public persona, would work to make opportunities for women to advance. Perhaps they have, and no women have, but that seems unlikely. Apple, time to wake up, and enter modernity. I would love to hear from Apple folks who know me to be wrong on this one. Please, prove me wrong!

Wow, I'm impressed already with Posterous' options. I asked around via Twitter about Posterous and received a very positive slew of responses, so I started one up. Feel free to join me there. I love that I'm blogging via e-mail right now, and can even address it to: "posterous+twitter@posterous.com" so that it auto posts to my Twitter and Posterous blogs. I could add in Flickr, Facebook, my blog, and even more. They have auto tie-ins to so many places. This thing has a lot of potential. I bet my teachers would love it if they could just post to their blogs via their e-mail. Oh wait, they can! I might have to try this out with some beta testers.
    Go Posterous, you rock!

Categories: future, resources, teaching Comments: 0

about_appleI’m one of the organizers for the TEDx NYED conference taking place on March 6, 2010 in New York City. TEDx is a TED-style event, but is completely independently organized. The organizers are mostly educators, but all our passionate about the future of technology in education.

The speakers are amazing, and they include: Larry Lessig (author, professor at Harvard Law School), Gina Bianchini (founder of Ning), Andy Carvin (NPR), Mike Wesch (professor at Kansas State, YouTube phenom) and many more…

You sort of can’t afford to miss this event. Because of the limited size (intentional), we ask you to apply. If accepted, the cost of admission is $40. Best deal in town if you ask me!

Looking forward to meeting you all there.
