Alex, I think you’re right, we do need to be more involved in these types of spaces. Unfortunately, we (as in schools) are off to a late start. Never too late though, right? We can reshift the conversation. Together, students and educators can realize all kinds of new potentials.

That blog link is fantastic. What a great example of educationally meaningful blogging. There is a cool class wiki here: http://pc40s.xwiki.com/xwiki/bin/view/Main/WebHome

Hey Arvind,

I’ve been seeing more and more 20 and 30 somethings using myspace. My brother-in-law’s band is using a space to publicize their band: http://www.stuyvesantrock.com/, MySpace: http://www.myspace.com/stuyvesantrock. Great interface and interesting statistics on listening.

Positive uses of social networks? I think we have to create the positive feedback, no? We educators have to get into the space and use the technology to enable more effective learning. Check out this http://pc4sw06.blogspot.com/2006/02/scribe-4-circular-functions.html for an example of the social benefits of blogging. The comments are really great, and they are encouraging the next scribe to do a better job. Great stuff, and all about the relationships!

See next week.

- Alex

MySpace is getting more attention than ever. First it was the students, then it was the educational technologists (1, 2, 3), then the cyber-safety teams (1, 2), then the newspapers (1, 2, 3) and now onto The Daily Show with John Stewart (link to video). On their Trendspotting segment, Demetri covers MySpace from a satirical perspective. A nice change of page from the serious and stern looks we have been getting from the mainstream media.

No one has covered an educational social-networking use that I have seen yet. Anyone have some postive articles we could read?
